Young Warriors CC to contest Speaker’s National T20 Cup

The East Canje-based Young Warriors Cricket Club (YWCC), the home of West Indies young batting sensation Shimron Hetmyer, is set to participate in the inaugural Speaker’s National T20 Cup.

This tournament, organised by the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) in collaboration with the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), is set to bowl off on April 3. The YWCC welcomes the initiative, and is eager to showcase the talents of its players. This is the club that won the first ever National T20 tournament in 2006, sponsored then by Shapoorji Palonji, and pocketed Gy$1M.

In an effort to make its participation possible, the YWCC has reached out to sponsors, two of which willingly came on board so far. They are: Aubrey David of SD&L Certified Accountancy of St. Ann Street, New Amsterdam, and Syeed Mobarakali of Homeline Furnishing, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, both in the county of Berbice.Both companies expressed delight to be part of a cricket club with such a rich history in such a short time.

The club has, over the years, produced many West Indies, National and Berbice junior cricketers, and the second international cricketer from the East Canje area, Shimron Hetmyer. The executive met recently and named a strong team as listed below: Shimron Hetmyer (availability still unclear), Vishal Mahabir, Alex Algoo, Ricardo Ramdeholl, Trevon Stanislaus, Seon Hetmyer, Suresh Dhanai, Linden Austin, Kassim Khan, Carl Gilgeous, Amir Khan, Devindra Ramotar, Mortimer Fraser, Jarron France, Jermin Henry and Ishwar Singh. Coach/player is Balram Samaroo and Manager is Anil Beharry.
