Permaul bags 4 as Brathwaite’s XI coast to 4-wicket win

Guyana’s left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul claimed 4-21 in 12.1 overs to highlight the third day of the Best v Best Test trial at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua. Kraigg Brathwaite’s XI won the match by four wickets inside three days. Brathwaite’s XI resumed the day on 242-5 in reply to Chase XI 326.

Early on day 3, Brathwaite’s XI was bowled out for 346, with a lead of 20. In addition to Brathwaite’s 95, Kaveem Hodge scored 59 while Rahkeem Cornwall scored a blistering 63 which was decorated with nine fours and three sixes. Jomel Warrican had 3-72 in 27 overs while Guyana’s Nial Smith claimed 3-91 in 18.5 overs while Raymon Reifer and Chemar Holder had two wickets each.

In Chase XI second innings, six batsmen went for ducks and John Campbell was the man in form socring 55 from 118 balls, backing up his first innings 129, pressing his case for another Test selection. Jahmar Hamilton scored 25 and Chase made 19 as his team were blown away for 113 in 42.1 overs. Permaul had 4-21 while Cornwall had 2-23.

Kieran Powell top-scored with 29 as Brathwaite’s XI ended on 95-6 in 20.3 overs to seal the victory. Sheyne Mosley, Sunil Ambris, Jermaine Blackwood, Raymon Reifer, Warrican and Smith all went for ducks while Shimron Hetmyer also wnet for a two-ball duck. Reifer, Blackwood, and Imran Khan had two wickets each.
