Golden Republic T20 Bash…
Led by a brilliant 58 from Chandrapaul Hemraj, Sherfane Rutherford Renegades won by eight wickets in the Golden Republic T20 Bash at the Guyana National Stadium Providence last evening. Watched by a small-sized crowd, compared to Hero Caribbean Premier League, Rutherford Renegades chased down 141 posted by Shimron Hetmyer Hurricanes. Hemraj and Tevin Imlach (43) ensured the Rutherford-led team won comfortably.
Earlier, Rutherford Renegades won the toss and elected to bowl first. Lendl Simmons announced himself in style, smashing Keon Joseph for a maximum over wide long-on. Joseph came back in style hitting his lengths and removed Trevon Griffith for a first-ball duck. Griffith top-edged one that was comfortably taken by Anthony Bramble with the score on 7-1. Then came West Indies U-19 batsman Kevlon Anderson who struggled at the inception.
At the end of the power play, Hetmyer Hurricanes were 44-2; Anderson who hit some sweet fours fell after scoring 19 from 18 balls. The pugnacious Simmons showed his skill as a T20 batsman hitting three fours and one six but he was dismissed for 23 by a disciplined Anthony Adams who struck timber.
Captain Sherfane Rutherford had his mini-battle with Christopher Barnwell. Rutherford struck Barnwell on the pads and the next delivery, Barnwell found the fielder at short mid-wicket and was dismissed for four. At the half-way stage, Hurricanes were 71-4. Shimron Hetmyer came with the intention to repair the innings.
As the crowd tormented the axed West Indies left-hander with the provocative words, Hetmyer displayed a bit of patience. In the 11th over bowled by Kevin Sinclair, Hetmyer took advantage of the free hit, driving Sinclair to cover for a boundary. It was then Rayad Emrit came to the show as the Trinidadian peeled off Hetmyer’s edge in the 12th over but the umpire ruled that the ball failed to carry to the keeper.
Hetmyer, after scoring 24 from 25 balls was eventually dismissed in a similar fashion, this time, Quinten Sampson found the edge. Some scraping from the middle-lower order then took Hetmyer’s Hurricanes to 140-9 when 20 overs expired. Renaldo Ali-Mohamed made an unbeaten 19 from 16 balls while Gudakesh Motie made 13.
The restriction was perfected by Emrit who ended with 4-25 in four brilliant overs; all four of his wickets were clean bowls. In reply, Rutherford’s Renegades openers had a breezy start. Tevin Imlach and Chandrapaul Hemraj added 63 runs together to set up an easy chase.
They ended on 144-2 in 17.1 overs. Hemraj innings came off 45 balls and included three fours and three sixes. Imlach made 43 from 24 balls which were decorated with six fours and two sixes. Leon Johnson hit one six and one four in his 17 while Raymon Reifer made an unbeaten 23 from 15 balls. Nial Smith and Barnwell had the wickets for Hetmyer Hurricanes. Rutherford Renegades received the 1M cash prize and the winning trophy.
