The Cricket West Indies (CWI) tournament technical committee for the CG United Super 50 Cup has approved two player replacements for the Guyana Harpy Eagles and Trinidad & Tobago Red Force respectively.
Guyana Harpy Eagles’ all-rounder Romario Shepherd will return to Guyana for personal reasons and be replaced by Richie Looknauth. Looknauth, who is a spin bowling allrounder, will be looking to make his senior debut for the Harpy Eagles, having represented Guyana at youth level. Looknauth will join the squad in Trinidad today, making him available for Guyana’s next match against West Indies Academy on Wednesday, 1 November.
The Harpy Eagles Head Coach, Ryan Hercules stated, “Obviously, it is very unfortunate that we are losing Romario, and we wish him all the best at home. Richie was named as a reserve player for this tournament, after performing notably well in the ‘Guyana Inter-County 50 Over Tournament’ with both bat and ball. Having represented the country at youth level and being around the Harpy Eagles setup for a few years, we think that he is right player to come into the squad at this point.”
Trinidad and Tobago Red Force’s left-handed opening batsman, Evin Lewis, has been ruled out of their CG United Super 50 Cup squad with an injury and he will be replaced by Nicholas Pooran, the experienced left-handed wicketkeeper/batsman.
Red Force Head Coach, David Furlonge said, “Evin has been struggling with an injury and we think it is best that he takes this period to rehabilitate. We are blessed to be able to bring in a player with Nicholas’ ability and experience into a team that is already doing well. We have no doubt that he will have a positive impact on the unit both on and off the field.”
The Harpy Eagles currently sit sixth in the table, having acquired a total of 23 points in their five matches with two matches remaining in the group stages. Trinidad & Tobago Red Force lead the table with 37 points. Their next match will against Jamaica Scorpions at Queen’s Park Oval on 2 November at 9am.
The semi-finals will be played on 8 and 9 November at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. The CG United Super 50 Cup Final will be played at 1pm on Saturday, 11 November at the same venue. These will be day/night matches and will be televised live on ESPN Caribbean. (CWI)
