Guyana Harpy Eagles and the undefeated Barbados Pride team will lock horns tomorrow, Sunday October 29 from 9:00h Eastern Caribbean time. The sides will do battle at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground in Trinidad in the important Super50 contest.
Guyana’s batting has been fragile this season having recorded scores of less than 250 in their four matches thus far in the 2023 Regional Super50.
The Guyanese scored 229-9 (50) against Windward Islands, 176 all out (33.4) against Trinidad and Tobago, 248-6 (47.3) against Leeward Islands and 177 all out (48.1) against Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC).
With the exception of Sherfane Rutherford and Tevin Imlach, the Guyanese batsmen have failed to bat deep and convert those starts. Rutherford has 170 runs in four matches, including a century, while Imlach has 179 runs in the four games, including a solid 80.

Barbados are equipped with 22 points in three matches, with 12 bonus points while Guyana have 15 points, with only five bonus points. Test Opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul, had scores of 29, 19, 01, and 30. He will want to give the Guyanese a brisk start, as bonus points will be up for grabs in the opening 10 overs of the game.
Senior batsman Shimron Hetmyer continued to get starts in the tournament, with scores of 21, 24, 04, and 10. He will have to take responsibility and record a big score against the Barbadian side.
The Guyanese bowling has saved the team from embarrassment. Romario Shepherd, Gudakesh Motie, Kevin Sinclair and Veerasammy Permaul are key men while the other bowlers have chipped in at times.
Kyle Mayers, who was in total command against Windward Islands during his dominant 107, will want to give the star-studded Pride batting order a good start. The likes of Shai Hope, Shamarah Brooks, Kraigg Brathwaite and Roston Chase will aim to use their experience and counter the strong Guyanese bowling unit.
Hope has been in imperious form with the bat, and he will be the prize scalp for the Guyanese tomorrow. Barbados are also equipped with West Indies bowlers in Akeem Jordan, Dominic Drakes, Jomel Warrican and all-rounder Raymon Reifer.
