The Guyana Harpy Eagles will be aiming to school the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) team in tomorrow’s Regional Super50 contest. Both teams will lock horns from 9:00h Eastern Caribbean time, at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground in Trinidad.
Guyana are fresh from a four-wicket win against table leaders Leeward Islands Hurricanes while CCC are fresh from their first win in two seasons, clinching a final ball thriller against Windward Islands Volcanoes.
Shane Dowrich, who is fresh from a maiden List A century will be aiming to lead his troops well. Guyana’s batting is yet to click collectively, but Sherfane Rutherford’s maiden List A century will lift the spirit of the team.
After Guyana’s victory, Rutherford said he is expecting the other batsmen to come to the party.
“I still think we did not have our best game as yet. Most of the guys still have not come to the party. It is going along nice for us, it is good for me to start it off (the run-scoring and hopefully the other guys can continue from the next game,” Rutherford said.
After three matches at this Super50, Guyana are in fourth with two wins and one defeat. The Guyanese are equipped with 13 points while CCC are in sixth with 11 points, recording one win and one defeat in three matches. The other CCC match was a no-result due to rain.
With the exception of Rutherford, no other Guyanese batsman reached 50 runs in an innings this season. This match against an inexperienced CCC team, should be a run-fest for the out-of-color Guyanese batsmen.
In the last match, Guyana made three changes. Kemol Savory replaced Chandrapaul Hemraj, Kevlon Anderson replaced Quentin Sampson and Ronsford Beaton replaced Nial Smith. After a win, the Guyanese are expected to play an unchanged team.
Additionally, this match against CCC will have mini-battles. Guyanese duo Akshaya Persaud and Isai Thorne are with the CCC team, and they will want to show their skills against their countrymen.
The West Indies youth pacer, Thorne, has five wickets and has shown great promise thus far. In addition to Dowrich, a relatively experienced player, Chemar Holder, will want to continue his return journey and claim some big Guyana wickets.
Romario Shepherd is Guyana’s leading bowler thus far, with seven wickets while Rutherford, who has 12 sixes in three matches, six more than the other top six-hitters, has 157 runs, joint with Darren Bravo at third.
