Albion Club joins COVID-19 fight
Known for producing great cricketers for Guyana and the West Indies, the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club (ACCCC) earlier this week distributed face masks to its members. In a release, the club disclosed that this is the first of several possible activities that would be embarked upon in reaction to the coronavirus (COVID-19).
During the presentation of the masks, Club Secretary and Manager of cricket teams, Omarnauth Outar, urged all cricketers to stay fit during their time at home and to observe all precautions against contracting COVID-19.
“Our mission at Albion is to promote and develop cricket. Right now, with COVID-19 (prevalent), cricket is virtually shut down worldwide. The club lives, we have our membership and we have our responsibility to them, and we are preserving their well-being,” he posited.
Now that they have masks, members of the Albion CC would be safe to train at home; and Outar said, “We encourage them to adhere to the social distancing, washing hands and all the other protocols (of) this COVID-19. Distribution of masks is only one way of keeping these cricketers safe,”
He is hoping that when cricket resumes being played, the Albion cricketers are fit and ready.
The Albion Community Centre Cricket Club is considered one of the best in Guyana. The coronavirus situation would continue to be monitored very closely, and assistance would be provided to its members, and by extension the community at large, as the need arises.
With measures in place to battle the COVID-19, the club, a few weeks ago, temporarily suspended all of its cricketing activities until further notice. The release from the Club also stated that with the negative impact that the coronavirus would likely have on businesses, and moreso sponsorship in regard to Berbice cricket, all possibilities would be explored to further assist the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) with sponsorship.
According to the Club, the sponsorship of the BCB New York Business Group Under-19 50-overs Tournament is already secured through its efforts, and options for sponsorship pertaining to other tournaments in Berbice would also be explored.
Albion CC is urging everyone to take the necessary precautions in light of the coronavirus and encourages everyone to pray that the Almighty would soon bring an end to this unwanted situation around the globe.
