Madramootoo, Schultz lead Demerara to crushing win over Essequibo

Tilleya Madramatoo and Demerara captain Kaysia Schultz stroked half-centuries as Demerara crush Essequibo by 135 runs victory in the opening round of the GCB Women’s Inter-County Super50 Tournament, played at Everest.

In the match which was reduced to 45 overs due to a two-hour delay due to rain, Demerara made 228-5 off 45 overs after winning the toss and deciding to bat first on a good Everest pitch.

The promising Madramootoo top scored with 65 which was decorated with seven fours. At the same time, Shultz, a West Indies international player made an even unbeaten 50, reaching her landmark on the final delivery of the innings.

National under-19 player Naomi Barkoye supported with 27. Essequibo captain Kumarie Persaud was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-24 off 9 overs.

Essequibo in reply, made 93 all out 22.4 overs with Analesia D’Aguiar the top scorer with 16.

West Indies left-arm spinner Schultz then returned with the ball to claim 3-5 (2.4 overs), Letisha Jordan had 2-13 (4), Nyla Latchman 2-14 (3) and Madramootoo claiming one wicket. Madramootoo was awarded the player of the match after the game.

The GCB Women’s Super50 tournament will continue Thursday, April 6 when Berbice play Essequibo at GCC. The final round encounter between Berbice and Demerara will be played on Sunday, April 9. Matches start at 09:30 hours. There is no final in the Super50 tournament.
