Johnson: “there is work for the Jaguars’ batsmen to do”

Guyana Jaguars are off to a winning start in the ongoing CG Insurance Regional Super50 tournament.
Having recorded a 56-run win against Barbados Pride in their opening match, the Jaguars will now shift focus to the impending clash with the Leeward Islands, set for Friday February 12 from 13:30h.

Reflecting on the first match against Barbados Pride, Guyana Jaguars captain Leon Johnson has said: “We played today; the bowlers did a good job. Obviously ‘Hetty’ and ‘Sheppy’ brought their international experience for us…235 is just about par, but the second innings teams have struggled to past 190 runs, so we were always confident with the total on the board. We just have to take each game as it comes; Leeward Islands pose a different challenge, so it’s just about execution on the day.”

With the exception of Shimron Hetmyer’s 80, Romario Shepherd’s 58, and Chandrapual Hemraj’s 35, the Jaguars’ batsmen had lost their way in that encounter. In their second match of the season, Johnson and his men will be aiming for a more collective effort, and not being bowled out in 41.4 overs.

“There is some work for the batters to do. We were off to a very good start, but then we lost our way,” Johnson said after the first match of the Super50 tournament.
