CWI/PCL Regional 4-Day Tournament…

The absence of a century being scored in this match continued with two of the Leeward Islands Hurricanes batsmen perishing in the 90s. Nevertheless, at the end of the third day, Hurricanes are in control on 355-7, replying to Guyana Jaguars’ first innings total of 261 all out.
Montcin Hodge stroked a compact 98, while the flashy Trinidadian Amir Jangoo scored 90 and Captain Jahmar Hamilton made an aggressive 67 as the visitors crafted a 94-run lead. Resuming the day on 73-2, Hodge and Jangoo continued their resistance against the Guyana Jaguars bowlers despite the prevalence of spin on the Providence pitch.
They made it difficult for the Jaguars spin triplets of Gudakesh Motie, Veerasammy Permaul, and Kevin Sinclair to get a wicket in the morning session. Hodge, who had scored a century in 2019 against this same opponent at this same venue, was the first to reach his half-century with a boundary.
The compact right-hander reached this landmark from 248 balls after batting for 275 minutes. The left-handed Jangoo survived some close calls against the wiles of the off-spinner Sinclair. Even though he bowled a few quick deliveries, Sinclair was consistent in his line and length, despite bowling a few no-balls.
Jangoo reached his fifty after facing 178 balls and occupying the crease for 186 minutes. The duo then ensured there was no hiccup as they piloted their team to 161-2 at lunch. They continued to blaze the trail with some steady batting after lunch; but Jangoo, who looked set for his maiden first-class century, was trapped in front by Permaul with the Hurricanes on 211-3 after 104.4 overs.
The solid Jangoo departed for 90 runs made from 250 balls after batting for 300 minutes. His innings was decorated with ten fours and one six, and his dismissal ended a 171-run partnership with Hodge. The solid Hodge continued his grind after he was dropped by Bramble on 68 off the bowling of Smith. Former West Indies U-19 batsman Keacy Carty came and played some delightful shots, but his ambitious innings of 22 came to an early end when he edged Reifer to Leon Johnson at first slip as Hurricanes reached 244-4.
Captain Jahmar Hamilton and Hodge joined forces and took the score to 251-4 in 113 overs at the tea interval. Hodge was unbeaten on 95 at tea while Hamilton was on one. When the final session resumed, the probing Reifer found the outside edge of Hodge’s bat, and another batsman perished in the 90s. Hodge departed after contributing an organized 98 runs from 371 deliveries after batting for 419 minutes. His innings included nine fours.
With the Hurricanes at 262-5, Terrance Warde partnered his captain Hamilton and added a rapid 84 vital runs to the score. Hamilton played fearless shots but was eventually bowled for 67 runs made from 75 balls after entertaining the small crowd for 115 minutes. His top knock included 10 fours and one six.
Warde’s wicket was the seventh to fall: at 349-7, the right-hander having made 21 runs from 87 balls before Motie ended his innings. Rahkeem Cornwall and Jeremiah Louis then negotiated the wicket to emerge at stumps with scores of one and six respectively. Permaul has taken 3-91 while Reifer has taken 2-70. The final day will commence from 9:30h with Hurricanes resuming on 355-7, enjoying a handy lead of 94.
