Weekend action in the New York National Cricket League (NYNCL)…
Guyana’s youth batsman Marvan Prashad has enjoyed a fruitful weekend in the New York National Cricket League (NYNCL). He scored a “player of the match” 113, and contributed a brilliant 70 while opening the batting for Everest/ACS in matches played against the Long Island XI and Hunters Cricket Club.
A local cricketer for the Blairmont Community Centre Cricket Club in West Berbice, Region 5, the classy right-handed stroke-maker began his dream weekend in the USA in style: with a 72-ball 113, which included 11 fours and four sixes. His innings led the Everest/ACS team to 228-6 in their allotted 23 overs.
Importantly, Prashad crafted a 113-run partnership with Wasim Haslim, who scored an even 50. Bowling for the opposition Hunters Cricket Club, Bashir Noory and Jugraj Singh each picked up two wickets. However, in their reply, the Hunters were restricted to 117-9 in 23 overs.
Chris Patandin took 4-24; Marvan’s brother Deveshwari Prashad claimed two wickets, and Jamaica and former West Indies ‘A’ team spinner Damion Jacobs claimed 2-22. Only Arwinder Singh, with 37, offered any resistance on behalf of the Hunters CC, who were defeated by 111 runs. In the second match, a collective batting effort from the Everest/ACS saw the Long Island XI suffer a heavy 193-run defeat.
Batting first, Everest/ACS posted 333-7 in their allotted 30 overs. Jetendra Sookdeo top-scored with 93 from 53 balls, which included eight fours and six maximums. The talented Marvan Prashad scored a 39-ball 70 to follow up his century scored in the first match. His innings was decorated with nine fours and two sixes. Troy Halley chipped in with 50, while Marvan’s brother Deveshwari scored a 24-ball 42.
In response, Long Island XI were rocked to 140 all out in 26.2 overs. Hardeep Sangha, however, scored 87 in a losing effort. Leg-spinner Damion Jacobs starred with the ball, ending with figures of 3-26, while Deveshwari and Chalton Senior each took two wickets. (Brandon Corlette)
