Foo opts out of inter-county to give youngster opportunity

Thirty-three-year-old batsman Jonathan Foo has decided to sit out of the Berbice squad at the upcoming senior inter-county 50-over tournament. The hard-hitting right-hander has made a selfless decision to give a youngster an opportunity to play in the Berbice team.

“I had my chances and it wasn’t good enough for me to earn myself a place in the national team in the past few years.” “I am still young and want to play for my county, and the love I have for the sport, but I wouldn’t be selfish take up a youngster spot who has lots of years ahead and can make a name for himself,” Foo said in an invited comment with Cricnation592.

The last Super50 tournament Foo played for Guyana, he scored 334 runs at an average of 55.66. After that stellar season, he was axed from the team. Since then, he continue to successfully ply his trade in the United States of America where he racked up big runs at all levels.

The senior inter-county will bowl off on Saturday September 30 from 9:00h at Blairmont Community Center Ground. Defending champions Berbice will play Demerara in the first round match.
