Dave Narine Trust Fund aims to bridge gap, promote academic development

GCB/Dave’s West Indian Imports & Exports Educational Trust Fund

The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) on Friday, launched the Dave Narine Educational Trust fund at the GCB Board room on regent street. Previously commissioned to benefit fifteen (15) young cricketers across Guyana, Mr. Dave Narine, proprietor of Dave’s West Indian Imports and Exports, at the launch, doubled that number to thirty (30); an impulsive decision which he deemed to be necessary.

This initiative will, now, grant (10) Under 17 cricketers, from each county, the opportunity to benefit from twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) worth of school supplies, aimed to assist in their academic pursuits.

Narine in his address spoke of his observation over the years, specifically the difference with the quality of life afforded by those cricketers, with an education, post their cricket career.

He stressed that many with just talent usually fell at the wayside after their cricket careers were over, as the lack of education didn’t yield many other opportunities. The Dave Narine Educational Trust fund is meant to bridge the gap, promoting academic development. It is his dream to see Guyana well-represented in the West Indies team, as in the past, fueling his motivation to aid youth cricketers, giving them the best fighting chance, Narine stated.

Aligning with Mr. Narine’s vision to enhance the academics of players, Hilbert Foster, Vice president of the GCB, lamented on the importance of an education for personal development and especially for players, who are expected to understand and abide by playing conditions of the game. Mr. Foster, extended his gratitude to Mr. Narine for sponsoring this instrumental undertaking by the GCB, and for renewal of sponsorship for the U-15 competition.

Especially humbled by Narine’s contribution was Bissoondyal Singh, President of the GCB, who noted the name “Dave Narine” to be synonymous with cricket, owing to his continual contribution towards youth cricket. Singh stated that this initiative is a key indicator of their development plans to heighten cricket, and transform its players, using a holistic approach. In closing, Singh, thanked proud sponsor Narine for his commitment, and kind sponsorship.
