Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Cricket Guyana Inc. (CGI) honored its commitment to contract promising players during the latter part of the 2020/2021 cricket season. This commitment has been honored despite speculations from some sections of the cricket sphere in Guyana that the academy players may have be kept in the doldrums for the complete 2020/2021 season.

However, such speculations have since been dispelled with the CGI administration continuing to uphold their 3-tier contract structure, which awards the respective players ranked A, B and C contracts. This season Academy Rank A contracts have been awards four players, Rank B to another four players, with six players receiving Rank C contracts. This brings the number of players contracted to 14, which indicates an additional two contracted players from previous seasons.

Among the noticeable Rank C contract players are the talented youth players of Mavendra Dindyal, Matthew Nandu, Isai Throne and Rampertab Ramnauth all of whom are currently under the watchful eyes and nurturing system of CWI, as specific player development initiatives take root with the upcoming ICC U19 World Cup which is planned to be held in the West Indies in 2022. The other Rank C contracts have been awarded to two talented players that many persons have their eyes on for future success, fast bowler Qumar Torrington and opening batsman Kevlon Anderson.

The four Rank B contract players include two players with first class exposure in Bhaskar Yadram and Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed. Richie Looknauth is rewarded for his continued commitment, as he remains as an academy contracted player, while all rounder Quinten Sampson gets his first opportunity to be involved with the academy structure, and is expected to stimulate an increased level of competition among players.

Leading the Rank A contract list is the experienced Assad Fudadin. He is joined by the promising wicket keeper/batsman, Kemol Savory, outstanding left arm spinner at the domestic level, Anthony Adams and by the talented right arm leg spinner Steven Sankar.

Both the current academy contracted players, as well as the available CWI/CGI contracted players are required to report to Academy coach, Julian Moore at the LBI ground for 0900 hours on Monday 8 February 2021, unless otherwise engaged in CGI national duties. (Guyana Cricket Board Release)
