Berbice defeated Demerara by seven wickets in the final match of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) senior inter-county women’s 50-overs tournament.
In yet another poor display of batting in this condensed tournament, Demerara were bowled out for 76 from 29 overs while Berbice cruised to 77-3 from 14 overs at Malteenoes Sports Club Ground in a rain-affected game.
A collective bowling effort from Plaffianna Millington, Tricia Hardat and Shenata Grimmond helped the Berbicians rocked the city girls. Opener Naiomi Barkoye top-scored with 24 while Nyia Latchman made 16 not out in a losing cause.
In reply, West Indies player Shabika Gajnabi batting at number three raced to an unbeaten 24. She struck two fours in her calm innings to humble Demerara.
Earlier in the condensed tournament, Demerara defeated Essequibo by 185 runs and Berbice defeated Essequibo by eight wickets.

According to the Guyana Cricket Board, the Inter-County competition will be used to select the Guyana team to compete in the Cricket West Indies Regional Women’s tournament, set for St. Kitts next month.
