Guyana Harpy Eagles four-day trials…
National batsman Kevlon Anderson scored a fine 122 while leg-spinner Steven Sankar claimed six wickets to hit down the Guyana Harpy Eagles selectors door. Opener Raymond Perez also staked a claim for selection with an unbeaten half-century in the fourth innings, in the match played at MMZ West Coast Demerara.
Matthew Nandu’s XI won by six wickets over Antony Adams’ XI as rain interrupted this past week’s action but both teams still managed to get some good time in the middle. Both Adams XI and the Nandu XI had strong individual performances by some of their key players.
Adams’ XI posted 232 all out, highlighted by Anderson’s ton. The middle-order batsman stroked an impressive 122 with support coming from Akshaya Persaud (28), Rivaldo Phillips (27) and Rampertab Ramnauth (20).
The impressive Steven Sankar, who continued his bowling form, snapping up impressive figures of 6-52 while speedster Nial Smith returned 2-52, bowling for the Nandu’s XI.
However, Adams and his men would come up short, as Nandu’s XI ended on 143-4 to secure a comfortable victory. Perez’s purple-patch continued with more runs flowing off his bat, ending on match-winning 76 not out.
Shamar Yearwood (19) was the next best scorer as Adams led the bowling for his team with returns of 2-13, while a few of his men grabbed a wicket each during their spells.
A third match is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, January 23 at a venue to be confirmed (weather permitting). The first trial at GCC was completely rained out. (Modified from the GCB)
