DCB U-19 inter-association cricket tournament…
– Bad light stops play in West Dem/East Bank clash
Besides scoring an unbeaten half-century in the opening round of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Under-19 inter-association cricket tournament, Georgetown’s Alvin Mohabir spun webs around the clueless East Coast batsmen to end with magical figures of 5-7.
This right-arm off-spinner was also instrumental in the city side’s 9-wicket win at Enmore.
Batting first, East Coast crept to 65 all out in 26 overs, with only Romel Datterdeen (15) and Lakeram Ramkisson (10) reaching double figures, and with extras top-scoring with 23.
It took Mohabir only three overs to complete the demolition job and end with figures of 5-7 after he was the fourth change bowler. Bryan Boyen had 2-16 as the city side displayed dominance with ball in hand.
In response, the dominant Georgetown side reached their target of 66 in 17.1 overs, ending on 67-1. The right-handed Jaden Campbell hit an unbeaten 36 which was laced with four boundaries, while Shamar Yearwood’s 26 not-out was decorated with three fours and one six. Brandon Jaikaran, the lone city batsman dismissed, contributed only three before Chetram Balgobin took his wicket.
The other match at Everest was set for a thrilling finish with West Demerara having the edge over East Bank, but bad light ended the encounter.
West Demerara won the toss and chose to bat, scoring 88 all-out from their allotted 20 overs, which was reduced to 17 due to a wet outfield. Ustradeva Balgobin and Rashid Benjamin scored 24 and 25 respectively. Mavindra Dindyal was the most instrumental bowler, collecting 3 for 11, while Niran Bissu took 2 for 20.
In reply, East Bank struggled as wickets kept tumbling, and they were forced to close their innings on 60-7 from 17.1 overs. Opening batsman Yeudistir Persaud scored 12 while middle order batsman Zachary Jodah top scored with 17. Balgobin, on the bowlers’ end, took 3 for 20 while Vishal Persaud collected 2 for 9.
In the third and final round on Friday (tomorrow, 18th December, 2020), Georgetown will battle with East Bank at Everest, while East Coast will face West Demerara at Enmore. Both matches will start at 9:30 hrs.
