It was a quiet day for the West Indian players who submitted their names to the Indian Premier League 2021 auctions. The likes of Keemo Paul, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Darren Bravo and Evin Lewis did not find a place at any team during the recent auctions.
Fabian Allen was the lone West Indian that was snapped up by the Punjab Kings for his base price of 75 lakhs.
Meanwhile, Chris Morris, the South African allrounder, became the IPL’s most expensive overseas player ever signed at an auction after he was picked up by Rajasthan Royals for 16.25 crores approximately $2.2 million US dollars.
Morris overtook Yuvraj Singh , Pat Cummins and Ben Stokes as the costliest buy at an IPL auction, but the Royals believe it was money well spent.
Australia’s Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith also bagged multi-million dollar deals in the auction, as did New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson. The likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Dwayne Bravo, Jason Holder, Chris Gayle, and Nicholas Pooran are on the retention list.
The other West Indians who missed out on selection were Sheldon Cottrell, Rovman Powell, Oshane Thomas, Chemar Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Obed McCoy, Jon Ross Jagessar, Fidel Edwards, Jayden Seales, Carlos Brathwaite, Shannon Gabriel, Kyle Mayers and Akeal Hosein.
